Sponsored by US Figure Skating – National Get Up Champion & Get Up Day – February 1st.

From USFS – The Get Up® campaign was launched by U.S. Figure Skating in 2017 to help skaters and non-skaters alike to recognize the grit, passion and perseverance needed to Get Up in the rink and in life every day.

The campaign is a celebration of the strength, resilience and determination it takes to be a figure skater. Our goal is to attract new skaters to the sport, grow our fan base and empower our members to take pride in who they are as figure skaters while making a positive difference in their communities.

If you know someone that you would like to nominate as a get up champion, follow the link and read the information to learn more!   National Get Up Day Remember to add # WEGETUP

Pre-purchased copies of the of the holiday show  DVD should be ready for pick up next week at the Panthers Ice Den. I will send out an email when they are there and available for pick up.

Volunteer Opportunity:

We are looking for a couple of skaters with nimble fingers to help us with a task, and earn volunteer hours. We have metals that need the ribbons changed. Stop in and see Lilly in her office, and she will get you the materials and show you what to do.  This would be perfect for some of our younger skaters 🙂

Our next topic is the Clubs presence on social media. The board is working hard on getting all of our social media accounts up, running, and more active.  Lilly has been working hard on updating our website, and it looks great!  If you haven’t already, please check out the clubs account on these  social media sites below:

Last but not least, as we are getting closer to our competition, we are going to need volunteers for the South Florida Challenge.   This will the major opportunity for all our skaters to get in the required 10 hours of volunteering that they need for the season. We will be posting sign-ups for donations items that we will need for the competition. We also will be posting sign-ups for volunteers to help at the event.  Any adult that wishes to volunteer at the competition is going to need to be SafeSport certified.  In order to go through the SafeSport training, an adult needs to have a parental membership for the club ($25), and do a background check that is good for this season and next season ($30).  Adults who complete the SafeSport training and complete their volunteering requirements at the competition, the club will refund your parental membership fees ($25).  SafeSport training rules are mandated by USFS,  and are required for any volunteer that comes in contact with the skaters.   As competition cannot be run by the board alone, we are asking that some of our parents step forward and complete the SafeSport training. We are going to be having a SafeSport training class next Wednesday, February 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 in the upstairs conference room at the Panthers Ice Den.  Those who plan on attending the class and going through SafeSport training, will need to sign up for a parental membership before attending the meeting. I will go over in a separate email,  that I will send early next week, instructions on what you need to do to be ready for the class.  Again, help from our parents is very much needed and appreciated!

I think (and hope) that’s all the information I have for everyone this week!

If you have any questions, as always, feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Angi Johnson
